The idea for Centralhome.com began in 1985 when the founder took some Continuing Education ballroom dance lessons. He continued his dance lesssons at a major studio but noticed that the instructors learned from instructional dance videos, as well as visiting coaches. Frustrated by the fact that he could not remember all the steps from his lesson, he wondered if he could buy dance videos to learn to dance. Alas, that was still a few years away.

With a partner, he started a DJ business catering to ballroom and wedding dances. They also started a printed dance newsletter. From here, the newsletter went online on CompuServe in 1996. His partner bought out his DJ business and bought a dance studio.

In March 1998, he bought the domain name Centralhome.com and published the newsletter online. He added history of dance articles, dance tips and dance articles. The website attracted many visitors. He added eCommerce in 1999, in association with Active Videos.

This added an extensive selection of dance lessons from ballet, ballroom and latin, hip hop to salsa and zydeco. From there we added fitness videos and DVDs, sports and instructional musical instrument DVDs.

With over 2,000 titles in 220 categories, the Centralhome.com website has a wide variety of DVDs and videos to choose from.
